When Is Urgent Care Right for Chest Pain Treatment
Chest pain can be frightening, especially if it’s your first time experiencing it. The good news is that pain in the chest may not always signal a heart attack or cardiovascular issue. There are several situations in which an urgent care center is a much more affordable—and fast—option, including:
- Mild but persistent discomfort or pressure in the chest
Often, chest discomfort is caused by heartburn, GERD (extreme acid reflux), a pulled muscle, or anxiety. - Mild but persistent chest discomfort that is accompanied by a burning sensation
Acid reflux is another common cause of prolonged chest discomfort. Consider visiting an urgent care center when over-the-counter antacids are not effective. You may need a stronger prescription medication to help control symptoms. - Chest pain that varies in severity
Muscle strains, sprains, and pulls often worsen with movement and when taking deep breaths. If this is the case, you will likely have a muscle injury. While this is not usually cause for concern, seeking professional X-ray and imaging services to rule out anything more serious is a good idea.
