Frequently Asked Questions

What is urgent care?

Urgent care is the treatment of non-life-threatening illness and injuries in people of all ages. ClearChoiceMD centers operate on a walk-in basis, are open 12 hours a day, seven days a week and offer convenient, exceptional care in its fully equipped state-of-the-art medical centers.

What services do urgent care centers provide?

ClearChoiceMD centers are equipped to treat all urgent non-life-threatening medical needs. We treat colds, flus, rashes, sinus infections, urinary tract infections, sprained ankles, burns, concussions and cuts requiring stitches, just to name a few! Additionally, we offer physicals, vaccinations and occupational health services such as drug testing and DOT physicals. All of our centers are state-of-the-art facilities and have on-site laboratory services and X-ray, as well as prescription medications you can take home, and not have to go the your local pharmacy and wait for the medication.

What does a typical visit look like?

When you visit a ClearChoiceMD center, you’ll be greeted by one of our dedicated team members in the reception area. They will check you in and have you in to see a board-certified provider within minutes. 90 percent of our patients are registered, treated and discharged in less than an hour.

Who does ClearChoiceMD treat?

ClearChoiceMD centers and staff are equipped and ready to treat patients of all ages. We’ll see adults with a sore throat, children with broken bones and teenagers who need a sports physical. Our board-certified providers most often have a background in emergency or family medicine, ensuring they are well-rounded and experienced in treating individuals of any age.

Why should I visit an urgent care center instead of the emergency room?

Urgent care is different from emergency care—an emergency is life-threatening, such as a heart attack, stroke, or serious car crash. If you’re facing one of those scenarios, then the emergency room is your best option. Otherwise, emergency rooms are often overcrowded with patients who, through no fault of their own, either don’t have a primary care provider or are unable to see their provider for an acute visit; these are great reasons to opt for urgent care. It has been estimated that up to 50 percent of emergency room visits could have been safely treated at an urgent care center. Otherwise healthy people who go to the hospital unnecessarily place themselves at risk for catching dangerous drug resistant super bugs.  The cost of urgent care is also far less than what patients pay in the emergency department. For example, at ClearChoiceMD an ankle X-ray is about $45, and at the hospital it could be as much as $500.

Can ClearChoiceMD replace my primary care provider?

ClearChoiceMD is a great option if you need to be seen sooner than your regular doctor can see you, but urgent care is not meant to replace the ongoing relationship you have with your regular doctor. Urgent care is the treatment of episodic illness and injury, and primary care is the treatment and prevention of chronic problems like diabetes, emphysema, cancer and high blood pressure.  You should know that, with your permission, we will electronically send to your regular doctor a summary of your visit with us within a few hours after you leave.  We feel it is important to keep your regular doctor informed of any care you receive.

What about follow-up care?

ClearChoiceMD follows up with every patient within three days of his or her visit. Additionally, with your permission, we will electronically send to your regular doctor a summary of your visit with us within a few hours after you leave.  We feel it is important to keep your regular doctor informed of any care you receive. We can also arrange for you to be seen by a specialist.

What about insurance?

Most insurance plans are accepted, but coverage is not required. For those without insurance, we offer a competitive Prompt-Pay program.
