Which Test Should I Get If I Do Not Have Any COVID-19 Symptoms?

ClearChoiceMD Urgent Care recommends PCR testing for all asymptomatic patients because of the test’s higher accuracy.

While we offer rapid antigen testing, it is important to understand that this test is less sensitive and may produce a false negative.

Asymptomatic patients can still request the rapid antigen test, but our providers may recommend a subsequent PCR test to confirm the rapid antigen results.

If you do not have symptoms, it is best to wait at least five days after your exposure to get tested. If you get tested too soon, the PCR test may not be able to detect the virus.

Our top priority is the health and safety of our patients, communities, and teams. Rest assured, we take extra safety measures to ensure all patients seeking urgent care services for non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries can be safely cared for at any ClearChoiceMD location.

COVID Testing Costs and Insurance Coverage

We provide straightforward pricing that varies based on insurance coverage, out-of-pocket payments, and the type of test selected. Patients can discuss available options with staff at check-in.

When to Get Tested for COVID-19

Testing is appropriate when symptoms develop, after potential exposure, or when required by schools, employers, or travel guidelines. Tests may also be used to help guide treatment decisions when patients come in for services like cough and cold treatment or urgent care treatment for fevers.

Current CDC recommendations advise waiting five days after exposure if you feel well, as testing too early may not detect viral levels yet. You should consider getting tested:

  • After direct or suspected exposure
  • When experiencing new COVID symptoms
  • Before trips requiring travel testing
  • When workplace or school rules request documentation

Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs

What is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)?

COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) is a respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It is very contagious and spreads quickly from person to person.

How does COVID-19 spread?

The virus spreads primarily through respiratory droplets released when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes. It can also spread through close contact or contaminated surfaces.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Common signs include fever, cough, fatigue, congestion, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell. Symptoms vary widely from person to person.

What is the difference between PCR and rapid testing?

PCR testing detects genetic material from the virus, offering high sensitivity. Rapid tests detect viral proteins and return quicker results.

How soon after exposure should I get tested?

Testing is typically recommended around day five after exposure or sooner if you develop symptoms.

Are ClearChoiceMD centers open for other services during COVID testing?

Yes. All locations stay open for full medical care, including imaging, lab tests, and virtual urgent care appointments.

Can you test for COVID immediately?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome throughout the day for fast evaluation and walk-in COVID testing.

COVID-19 Testing Options Available

Our urgent care clinics provide several testing options for patients who want fast answers or guidance after a recent illness or COVID exposure. Visits are designed to be efficient, with providers evaluating your symptoms and recommending the most appropriate type of testing for your situation. Each diagnostic method plays a different role in identifying active infection or past exposure, giving patients clear insight into their health status.

All centers offer testing performed by trained clinical teams who prioritize accuracy, comfort, and prompt results. Patients visiting our walk-in clinic can expect clear instructions, supportive care, and quick turnaround times. The following testing options are available at all COVID testing locations:

  • PCR COVID test: Lab-processed method known for high sensitivity, often returning results in 24 to 48 hours.
  • Rapid COVID test: Antigen test providing results in minutes for those needing immediate answers or a same-day COVID test.

When to Go to the ER for COVID Symptoms

Seek emergency care right away for serious symptoms that may indicate a dangerous progression of illness. Patients experiencing severe breathing problems or chest discomfort require prompt hospital-level intervention, as these signs may indicate complications that need rapid treatment.

  • Trouble breathing
  • Chest pain
