At ClearChoiceMD, we’re on a mission to provide exceptional urgent care for our communities while supporting our outstanding team members.
Our staff spotlights are an opportunity to introduce you to the providers and clinical staff who make our mission of excellent care a reality. In this spotlight, we focus on Daniel Joseph, PA.
Meet Daniel Joseph, PA
Daniel has provided exceptional care to our patients in Vermont for three years.
When not seeing patients, he can be found enjoying life in Vermont. His hobbies include fishing, hiking, traveling, backpacking, working on his farm, and spending time with his family.
Daniel was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by an experience with his father. Daniel, then 16, was on a road trip with his father, who suddenly began experiencing crushing chest pain and shortness of breath. Daniel insisted on driving his father to an emergency department (ED), where he was ultimately admitted to the ICU.
“The attending put his arm around me and said, ‘You did the right thing today…you saved his life.’ In that moment, I thought if I could help my father, then maybe I could make him proud by going on to a life devoted to helping others,” says Daniel.
Why Did You Decide to Work in an Urgent Care?
After completing his training as a physician assistant, Daniel went into orthopedic medicine and practiced in level 1 and level 2 trauma centers. He ultimately felt drawn to caring for patients in an urgent care setting.
“The diversity of medical knowledge required to cover a myriad of chief complaints, the procedures and hands-on skill, as well as the internal mental and physical dedication required to make it through numerous 12-hour shifts appealed to me and became very fulfilling,” says Daniel.
What Do You Love About Your Work?
Daniel finds deep satisfaction in his work. His favorite moments are “when a patient with fear, hurt, illness, or doubt walks in the door and, as a provider, you first validate its presence, and then through a trust-centered partnership with the patient and the use of medical knowledge, remove its power and replace it with hope and healing.”
What Do You Hope to Give to Your Patients?
Patients from many backgrounds who are experiencing a variety of illnesses visit urgent care. Daniel’s passion is to meet each patient where they are and help them on their way to healing.
Daniel sees the interaction between provider and patient as a relationship based on trust.
“This partnership will allow for the breaking down of stereotypical or outdated notions surrounding the preconceived roles of a white coat and a vulnerable ill or injured patient,” says Daniel. “At its best, it can provide open communication, respect, empathy, and a promise to go on this journey of healing together.”
